Last week Microsoft detailed some of the many changes that would be coming to PCs and the Xbox One with the Creators Update. Included in those were performance improvements and new UI elements for the Xbox One. Now, one company executive showed everyone a sneak peek of those improvements.
One of the pain-points in the Xbox One’s user interface is the time it takes for certain menus to pop-in, especially while in the middle of a game. As such the so-called Guide, which is the menu on the left side of the screen that has Messages, Achievements, Settings, and other often-used functions can be a pain to access and use.
Luckily, those issues are being addressed by the company in the Creators Update, also known by Windows insiders as Redstone 2. The update, expected to officially launch in April, brings some important multitasking improvements to the Xbox, which should make accessing menus much faster. There are also a number of changes to the UI, which should make accessing often-used functions much easier.
All of these improvements were demoed by Mike Ybarra, or Qwik on Xbox Live, during a recent livestream. The Xbox executive popped open the new Guide menu by single-pressing the Xbox button on the controller. As you can see in the video above the menu popped up almost instantly. The new UI also gives much faster access to recording and screenshotting options.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that what we’re seeing is a preview version of the updated system, so the final results may prove to be even more impressive. But for those, we’ll have to wait a number of extra months.
