Last week, Nintendo revealed key details of the Switch, its new hybrid console that can be played on the move, or connected to a TV at home. Priced at $299.99, it will launch on March 3, with a range of games available on launch day - but we're still finding out more details about the device, and not everything has been entirely positive.
The promise of a free game to download every month as part of its subscription service turned out to be a free monthly 'rental' of a game that you won't be allowed to keep. You'll have to pay extra if you want a Joy-Con grip that keeps the controllers charged while you're using them. There won't be any support for media streaming services on the Switch either.
And now, Nintendo has confirmed to Kotaku that the 'Capture' button on the Switch doesn't work quite the way some people had hoped.
The button doesn't let you stream your gameplay to services like Twitch or Beam, and it won't even let you record a video clip. Instead, it will simply let you capture a screenshot, which can then be shared.
Nintendo explained:
The Capture Button is located on the Joy-Con (L) controller and the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and lets users grab screenshots from their games. They can then view, edit (add text of various sizes, colors and positions) and post them to social media. The original unedited screenshot is also saved.
There is some good news, though. Nintendo added that it is "planning to add the ability to record video in the future" - although it offered no indication of when that functionality will actually arrive.
For now, Switch owners will just have to make do with sharing screenshots of their finest gameplay moments.
