What's a computer? Apple's non-touch iMac Pro is launching on December 14

After announcing the new iMac Pro at WWDC 2017 back in June and promising a December release, many were beginning to be skeptical of whether or not Apple would make the deadline that it set for itself. Today though, the firm announced that it will begin selling the all-in-one this Thursday, December 14.

While lacking things that you'll find in most premium PCs like a touchscreen, facial recognition, or pen support, the new all-in-one packs some seriously powerful internals. Starting at $4,999, it comes with an 8-, 10-, or 18-core Intel Xeon processor, along with up to 128GB of 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory.

It comes with AMD Radeon Pro Vega graphics, with either 8GB or 16GB high bandwidth memory. For storage, you can get up to a 4TB SSD, with 3GB/s throughput.

And on top of the 500-nit 5K display, it has four Thunderbolt 3 ports, which you can plug into an additional two 5K screens. That means that you'll be looking at a total of 44 million pixels. You'll also find four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 10Gb Ethernet, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an SDXC card slot.

All of that comes in a Space Gray body, along with Space Gray accessories. It comes with a new Magic Keyboard, and you can choose between a Magic Mouse 2 or a Magic Trackpad 2.

Of course, if an all-in-one isn't for you, Apple is still working on a new version of its Mac Pro. Earlier this year, the company actually apologized for the existing Mac Pro, in a rare occurrence of Apple acknowledging a mistake. A redesigned model is in the pipeline, although it never said when we can actually expect it to see the light of day.

If you are interested in the iMac Pro, you'll be able to buy it in Apple Stores and from Apple.com, as well as from resellers.
