ZTE's crowd-sourced Hawkeye phone gets an official spec sheet

ZTE announced at CES 2017 that its crowd-sourced handset, previously only known as Project CSX, will be called Hawkeye. It's still a work in progress, but today, the firm announced the specs of the device.

Here's what you can expect from the ZTE Hawkeye:

  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (Octa-core 2.0GHz)

  • OS: Android Nougat (OTA update support)

  • Display: 5.5" FHD (1920 x 1080)

  • Camera (Rear): Dual Lens 13MP + 12MP with optical zoom

  • Camera (Front): 8MP

  • Memory: 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM (expandable with additional 256GB)

  • SIM: Dual SIM slot (additional slot may be used with MicroSD for storage)

  • Battery: 3000 mAh

  • WIFI 802.11 b/g/n/ac 2.4GHz/5GHz • BT4.2 / HFP1.6

  • Other Features: Fingerprint sensor, Hi-Fi audio, NFC, USB Type C, Quick Charge 2.0

As you can see, the phone is decidedly mid-range, which isn't entirely surprising given the $199 price tag. Of course, it still leaves room for a number of questions, such as which type of display will be used (LCD or OLED), or anything about the cameras that might reflect their quality, such as aperture, sensor size, or what type of technology will be used for focusing.

Hawkeye is also meant to stick to surfaces, and ZTE still hasn't said how it plans to make that happen, or what type of adhesive it will use. Of course, the company will continue to release details about the device as time goes on.

The Kickstarter campaign doesn't seem to be doing so well just yet, with only 160 backers. With 32 days to go, it's reached $30,472 of its $500,000 goal. You can check out the campaign right here.
