Ever since Samsung recalled all of the Note7 smartphones and officially gave up on this generation of devices, there’s been speculation as to how the company will win its customers back. Now, Samsung has announced the launch of an upgrade program for Note7 customers who’ll be able to switch to the upcoming Galaxy S8 or Note8 for a big discount.
Samsung is already offering monetary incentives and replacement Galaxy S7 devices to customers who were impacted by the Note7 recall fiasco. But on Monday morning, the company announced it was taking another big step in trying to right a wrong and keep whatever goodwill it has left among the public. Customers in South Korea will be able to upgrade to the upcoming Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note8 for half the price of the existing Galaxy S7, according to a Reuters report.
The company’s program may be extended outside of South Korea, though the company is obviously focusing on its home turf for now, where negative sentiments towards the Note7 has gone up dramatically in recent months.
Samsung’s mention of the upcoming Note8 device also reconfirms the company’s commitment to the brand, despite critics saying it should be abandoned altogether.
The Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2017, with the device rumored to feature a big redesign, a dual-lens camera setup, and a brand-new processor built on the 10nm scale.
