Google's pop-up shops won't be carrying the unlocked Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are set to make their official retail debut tomorrow. If you have pre-ordered the handset from Google, chances are, you might have already received it or it might be on the way. If you're a Verizon customer, you can still pre-order online from the Google Store or the Verizon website, but if you want it as soon as possible, you will probably want to head into a retail store on October 19.

While it was previously reported that the Google pop-up shops would also be a solution for unlocked models, it looks like the Los Angeles and New York stores will only be carrying the Verizon variants. Although the Verizon models are technically unlocked for use with supported GSM carriers, it is different, in that it will not arrive with an unlocked bootloader, meaning you won't be able to tinker with the software.

But, if you're looking just for the Verizon model, you'll be in luck, as the pop-up shops will have stock of both Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Google did not disclose how many would be available. The Pixel 2 starts at $649, while the larger Pixel 2 XL comes in at $849.
