Office Insiders in the Monthly Channel (Targeted) should be getting updates for the apps for Windows desktop. Version 1901, build 11231.20080, is rolling out starting today and it includes a handful of improvements for many of the apps in the suite.
For starters, comments and @mentions are now available in Excel. The latter feature was previously added to Word and PowerPoint with the September update, and it's now available for the three major Office apps. Microsoft is also adding a new search bar to all three apps this month, making it easier to find files that the user recently worked on.
Word, PowerPoint, and Excel all have a new accessibility checker now too, so users can ensure that their documents can be understood by all kinds of users. The apps will suggest any changes that need to be made in order to make documents more accessible.
Moving on to Outlook, there's a couple of additions. It's now possible to include animated GIFs in your messages using the Online Images option in the Insert tab. Additionally, all the encryption-related settings in Outlook can now be found under Options > Encrypt.
The new features perhaps aren't the most exciting, but they should make the Office suite a little better. Still nowhere to be seen are the new app icons for Office - which were announced last year -, but they should be available sometime soon.
