CES 2018 is now just a couple of days away, which means that it's time for major PC manufacturers to announce their new products. Acer is the first out of the gate, with its refreshes of the Swift 7 and Spin 3.
The firm once again claims that the Swift 7 is the world's thinnest laptop, making it even thinner, at 8.98mm. Indeed, this is even thinner than Lenovo's Yoga Book, which was actually marketed as a tablet. It's also an Always-Connected PC, which means that it offers cellular connectivity. What's interesting about this one is that it actually uses Intel's LTE modem; other Always-Connected PCs that have been announced use Qualcomm's modems.
Acer hasn't yet released a full spec sheet for the device, but it says that it uses a seventh-generation Core i7 processor. It's likely that, like last year's model, it uses a Y-series chip, which means that performance won't be as solid as other ultrabooks with a U-series processor. Intel hasn't yet announced its 8th-gen Y-series, which would be why Acer is sticking with 7th-gen 'Kaby Lake'.
Aside from that, the firm says that the Swift 7 will get up to 10 hours of battery life, and comes with 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a 256GB PCIe SSD. The display is a bit larger in this model at 14 inches, and the resolution remains the same at 1080p.
And then there's the Spin 3, which is a convertible that's aimed more toward the budget market. This device includes Intel's more powerful eighth-generation processors, and offers up to 12 hours of battery life with a 14-inch 1080p display.
The Swift 7 will be coming to North America in March starting at $1,699, and to EMEA regions in April starting at €1,699. The Spin 3 will be coming to North America a bit earlier in February, starting at $599, and to EMEA regions this month starting at €649.
