Have you ever tried talking to a kid that’s sitting in front of a tablet? Getting through to them can be pretty frustrating; it’s as if manners have gone out the window. Amazon, with its new FreeTime Unlimited on Alexa and FreeTime on Alexa, plans to bring back the manners and give parents more control over their kids’ digital activities.
FreeTime Unlimited on Alexa is now available for $2.99/month for Prime subscribers, it is limited to Echo devices and includes “over 300 Audible kids’ books; kid-friendly, ad-free radio stations and playlists; character alarms; premium Alexa skills from Disney, Nickelodeon, National Geographic, and more”.
All of the content comes with time limit options; controls to switch of services, skills, and voice purchasing; and even a magic word feature which offers positive reinforcement when kids use “please” when asking questions. Other tools allow parents to block explicit songs, review their child’s voice interactions with Alexa, and send messages via Alexa throughout the home so you don’t have to shout. All of the new functionality will roll-out on May 9th to Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus owners free of charge.
FreeTime on Alexa will be free for all Echo users but will not include the other content such as 300 Audible kid’s books, and premium skills. Nevertheless, it’ll be a very helpful tool for parents to receive.
Lastly, Amazon announced the Echo Dot Kids Edition which the firm says is the easiest way to get started with FreeTime. With the bundle you get an Echo Dot, FreeTime features and parental controls, plus a year’s worth of FreeTime Unlimited included in the price. Additionally, there’s a kid-friendly case and a 2-year guarantee. That device is available for pre-order today.
