Latest Mango build allows music streaming from SkyDrive

There has always been the hope that SkyDrive would one day allow music streaming to Windows Phone devices. It looks this dream may finally come true as developers with Mango can do just that. This feature was discovered by Manan in the recently released Mango build 7712.

The video shows the music streaming in action but the UI does leave a lot to be desired. Because of this, this may not necessarily be a feature, but potentially a loophole in the current setup. Or, this could be a feature that Microsoft is currently holding back, with a proper implementation coming in the near future, complete with an improved UI.

The update released to developers was supposed to be a small refresh. But streaming music from SkyDrive does seem to be a major improvement and new feature to the platform for a small update as Microsoft suggested.

If Microsoft does allow this type of streaming, it will offer the Windows Phone fans one more feature to get excited about. Microsoft will also be able to compete with Google, Amazon and Apple services that offer similar capability.

Mango was recently released to manufacturing and the first official Mango device has been announced by Fujitsu. Mango will bring over 500 new features to the Windows Phone platform and will be released this fall.
