Lenovo ThinkPad T480s unboxing and first impressions

Last week, we unboxed the Lenovo ThinkPad T480, and now it's time for the slimmed-down version of the portable PC, the T480s. While the T480s doesn't feel as rugged as its larger companion, it does indeed have the same impressive specs.

The biggest improvement across the board with this year's range of ThinkPads is Intel's eighth-generation U-series processors. Unlike the previous generations' dual-core chips, these are quad-core, meaning that users will see improved performance, particularly with certain workloads like running virtual machines.

Another improvement is that there are two USB Type-C ports, one of which is USB 3.1 Gen 1 and the other is Thunderbolt 3. Both can be used for charging, but the Thunderbolt 3 port is designed so that you can use the new ThinkPad Pro Dock with it.

And the other main improvement is called ThinkShutter, which is a built-in privacy guard for the camera. Gone are the days of having to put a piece of tape over your webcam, as there's now a mechanical switch to cover it.

But aside from all of that, the device is thinner and lighter than the T480. It comes in at just 2.9 pounds, and it's only 0.73 inches thick. Check out our unboxing video below:
