Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher enters Ghost Recon Wildlands in new update

Last week, Ubisoft announced a second year of free content to its open-world title Ghost Recon Wildlands that will arrive as four major updates named Special Operations. Today, the company confirmed that the first update will be crossing over with the Splinter Cell series, just as the teaser trailer revealed earlier.

Perhaps the update's biggest addition is the arrival of Sam Fisher (voiced by Michael Ironside), who is taking on a "high-risk infiltration mission" in Bolivia and the Ghosts charged with providing support. The stealth mission will be playable solo or cooperatively and it won't be easy, as Ubisoft calls it "one of the most difficult missions the Ghosts have ever faced."

Players who complete this mission will receive some Splinter Cell-themed goodies, such as the iconic night-vision goggles worn by the protagonist, and more. However, much like the Predator's quick visit, the new Sam Fisher centered mission will only be available until May 16, and those who don’t manage to complete it and snag the new gadgets before that date will be out of luck.

Some additional weapons and customization items inspired by the stealth series will also be made available as part of the new Splinter Cell Gear Pack.

Meanwhile, the game's PvP Ghost War mode is receiving the new assault class, Echelon. Thanks to being part of Sam Fisher’s Fourth Echelon team, this class brings a high-tech gadget to the field, letting players see through nearby walls using the Sonar Pulse ability. This class will be available to Year 2 season pass holders at first, with everyone else getting the chance to unlock it seven-days later.

The Special Operations I update carrying all this will land on April 10 to all players on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. But, for those that don't own Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ubisoft will be hosting a free weekend across all platforms from April 12 through April 15, giving access to the entire game including the new additions mentioned above.
