Lots of Amazon Kindle Fire 2 models on the way?

Amazon is rumored to be making an announcement about the next version of its Kindle Fire tablet as soon as the end of this month. Now a new report claims that there could be as many as four different versions of the Kindle Fire 2 planned, with one of them getting a cellular wireless connection.

News.com reports that, according to sources that NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim has contacted, there will be three seven-inch versions of the Kindle Fire 2 tablet made. Two of them will go into production in August. One has a touch screen resolution of 1024x600 display but no on board camera. The other has a higher HD resolution of 1280x800 with a camera.

The third Kindle Fire 2 seven-inch tablet is supposed to start production in September. It will also reportedly have a 1280x800 resolution screen and a camera but will also add in a "4G" wireless antenna. There's no word on which wireless carriers this Kindle Fire 2 will support.

Finally, Shim claims that a larger, 8.9-inch Kindle Fire 2 is in the works. Slated for production sometime in the fourth quarter of 2012, it will have a 1920x1200 screen. There's no word on any camera or wireless options. There's also no word on other hardware specs for any of the Kindle Fire 2 models.
