Lenovo ThinkPad X280 unboxing: It's like a smaller X1 Carbon

Lenovo's new ThinkPad X280 is designed for portability. Announced ahead of CES, it includes a 12.5-inch 1080p anti-glare touchscreen, and it weighs in at around two and a half pounds. This adds up to a business-class PC that's both compact and portable.

But it also includes Intel's new eighth-generation U-series processors, meaning that it's quad-core, and significantly more powerful than its predecessor. The additional cores can come in handy under many workloads, such as if you're using virtual machines. Like all ThinkPads, it ships with Windows 10 Pro, so you'll have Hyper-V for that.

Another thing that you'll find on the ThinkPad X280 is a privacy guard on the camera. This is something that we're seeing from various OEMs, so users don't have to go and put tape over the camera.

The ThinkPad X380 also comes with two USB Type-C ports, one USB 3.1 and one Thunderbolt 3, and both of them can be used for charging. There are also two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, along with HDMI 1.4.

All-in-all, it's a compact, light clamshell laptop that's reminiscent of a smaller ThinkPad X1 Carbon. Here's our unboxing video:
