Gboard for Android now uses AI to serve you GIFs, emoji and stickers

In March of last year, Google added emoji and GIF suggestions to Gboard for Android, allowing users to insert those content into their message while typing in a supported app on the go, so that the process no longer requires them to perform a manual search. Later, support for stickers and personalized Bitmoji was introduced to the virtual keyboard.

However, with the growing library of emoji, stickers, and GIFs available on Gboard, users may sometimes find it time-consuming to look for the most appropriate content that suits their mood. To address that gap, Google is adding artificial intelligence (AI) to the mix.

The search giant announced today that Gboard for Android now incorporates AI into the way it suggests emoji, stickers, and GIFs to users. That means the app will take into account the context of a chat and then find the perfect content for a given circumstance.

So when you type "good morning," the G logo on the top-left corner of Gboard’s suggestions bar will transform into a GIF button. Tapping on it will automatically pull up the relevant emoji, stickers, and GIFs for users to quickly choose from.

Google noted that the process takes place completely on the device to maintain user privacy. The feature is rolling out worldwide today, although in English only. Nonetheless, Gboard suggestions will support more languages and add more types of content in the future.
