HTC U11 EYEs with dual front cameras and Face Unlock announced

HTC has unveiled the U11 EYEs mid-range smartphone which brings some of the flagship features from the U11+ at a cheaper price point.

The information about the U11 EYEs was recently posted by Evan Blass on Twitter and most of it has now been confirmed through HTC's official website. Some of the hardware specifications were revealed by Blass, but now we have the complete set which is as follows:

  • 6-inch Super LCD3 screen with FullHD+ and 18:9 aspect ratio
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core chipset
  • 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and support for microSD cards upto 2TB
  • 12-megapixel UltraPixel 3 camera with f/1.7 aperture
  • Dual 5-megapixel front cameras with f/2.2 aperture
  • Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS, Cat-6 LTE, USB Type-C 1.0 connectivity
  • No 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 3930 mAh battery
  • IP67-rated water and dust protection
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • Edge sense
  • Android Oreo with HTC Sense

Despite the smartphone's dated chipset, features such as Face Unlock, Edge Sense, improved selfies using the dual front facing cameras and the 18:9 aspect ratio display might turn out to be of interest for consumers.

HTC has priced the U11 EYEs for NT$14,900 in Taiwan which roughly translates to $510 and will come with accessories worth NT$2000 ($50) if pre-ordered before the end of the month. The pre-ordered units are expected to ship by February 9. There is no word on availability in other markets yet.
