Nintendo has released a new trailer for Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let's Go, Eevee!, its upcoming duo of games that marks the debut of the main series of the franchise on theSwitch. The video showcases many of the features in the game, though some were known of beforehand.
Among the many aspects detailed in the trailer, we can see that the game will allow for customization of the player's character itself, as well as their partner Pikachu or Eevee, which can wear matching outfits. Trainers can also choose haircuts for their partner Pokémon - a first for the franchise - and "bond" with them through playful activities, which seems somewhat similar to Pokémon Refresh, a feature inprevious franchise entries.
Another somewhat new feature is the ability to not only have Pokémon from your team follow the player around, but also the ability to ride certain larger Pokémon, such as the Onix and Arcanine showcased in the trailer. When you have a member of your team following you around, they may also discover hidden items around the region. In addition to the Pokémon of your choosing, the partner Pikachu or Eevee will also be visible when traveling in the game, resting on the player's shoulder or head. This sort of feature was present in previous games, but not quite in the same way.
The trailer doesn't show a lot more that's new to fans of the franchise, but it does go over basic mechanics such as gym battles and the new cooperative mode, which is also debuting in this pair of games.
An accompanying press release provides some additional information, such as the Pokémon which can be exclusively found in each version of the game pair. Let's Go, Pikachu! players will find Oddish, Sandshrew, and Growlithe, while those who choose Let's Go, Eevee! will see Bellsprout, Vulpix, and Meowth.
There's also the PokéBall Plus accessory, which "at the time of release" can only be used as a controller for the two Pokémon games, and won't work with other Switch software. This hints at the future ability to use the accessory in conjunction with other games - such as a forthcoming Pokémon title - which seems fair considering the $50 price tag.
As a reminder, you can now pre-order Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let's Go, Eevee! which are set to release on November 16. The PokéBall Plus accessory is launching alongside the games and it's also available for pre-order on the official website.
