Twitter to drop the ability to create Moments from iOS and Android apps

Towards the end of 2015, Twitter launched "Moments" as a new feature in its mobile apps as a way to easily keep up to date about developing news and stories on the platform. Over a year later, the company took the opportunity to merge Moments along with trends and search under the then newly introduced Explore tab but, since then, it seems that Moments hasn't really taken off in a large enough way according to Twitter's expectations.

Having cited a decline in the use of the function, the ability to create Moments will be withdrawn from the iOS and Android Twitter apps in two week's time. Those keen to keep creating their own Moments will have to resort to using the desktop website but they will still be viewable from the mobile apps.

The news comes after Twitter last month announced that it was working on other changes to its service, such as making it easier to switch back to a reverse chronological timeline and a raft of updates to its progressive web app. However, the company has ruthlessly swung its axe in the past as evidenced by the complete elimination of its apps for Xbox One, Roku, and Android TV earlier in the year.
