The latest release of Google's operating system has already made its way to the Nokia 7 Plus and, last week, at the event where it announced the Nokia 7.1, HMD Global said it would be bringing Android Pie to a few more devices soon. Among the phones that were mentioned, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 6.1 were said to be receiving the update this month, and now the former is getting its first taste of it.
Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD, used Twitter today to announce that the company's customers can now sign up for the Nokia Beta Labs program to get access to Android 9.0 on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. This initial release leaves out the regular Nokia 6.1, but presumably, it will soon follow the footsteps of the bigger brother.
Android Pie brings a number of changes to Google's OS, introducing gesture navigation for phones with on-screen buttons, many aesthetics refinements to the interface, and a host of improvements around artificial intelligence. A Digital Wellbeing feature will also be included in a future update, helping you manage the time you spend on your phone.
In addition to the Nokia 6.1 and 6.1 Plus this month, HMD Global will be bringing Android 9.0 to its two flagships, the Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco, sometime in November. The newly-announced Nokia 7.1 is also expected to receive the update soon after it hits the market.
