Samsung finally announced its Galaxy Note9 earlier today, along with the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Home. Despite its announcement, we are still a couple weeks away from its retail release. Luckily, the firm has released several videos, giving us more details about the phone and its features.
You won't find words spoken in the videos, but Samsung does a pretty good job of keeping things simple, showing off the details of its latest handset. You can see the device, with its sleek design and its large 6.4-inch Infinity Display, along with the color options that will be available across the globe, that include: Midnight Black, Metallic Copper, Ocean Blue, and Lavender Purple.
The S Pen has been discussed in leaks countless times, and yes, it does have improved capabilities and is now connected over Bluetooth. You can see that the stylus can now be used as remote that can initiate the camera shutter from up to 10 meters. This will be perfect when you are alone and need to capture a quick portrait.
As you can see in the video above, you'll also be able to use it as a physical pointer during your presentations. All jokes aside, when you connect your phone using Samsung DeX, the stylus will allow you to control presentations, making things more seamless than ever before.
As you might expect, the camera is kind of a big deal on the new Galaxy Note9. Although the quality will be similar to that of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, it will have advanced features that will make pictures even better. The Flaw Detection feature will, as it sounds, notify you of any flaws that might be in the photo. For example, it will detect eyes that are blinking, so you can try again to get a better image. The Scene Optimizer uses AI to understand what kind of photo is being taken and optimize the colors.
Perhaps one of the more exciting features of the Note9 is the increase in its battery. While the previous model made use of a 3,300mAh battery, the new model will increase that to 4,000mAh. There is also more storage when compared to the predecessor, increasing to 128GB at its base, and 512GB at its maximum. Not only will you have the baseline internal storage available but you will also still be able to use a microSD card for expansion.
Samsung DeX made its debut last year with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. It allowed users to harness the power of the phone by docking into an accessory, plugging it into an external display, to get a PC-like environment to work with. That same feature is available on the Note9 but you will not be required to carry a bulky dock and instead you can make use of a much smaller HDMI adapter.
If all of this sounds like exactly what you are looking for, you'll be able to start pre-ordering the unit tomorrow. If you're the type that likes to head into a store, it will make its official retail debut on August 24.
