Amazon Web Services has announced that its sixth European expansion will be in Italy and that it plans to launch the service there in early 2020. By adding the AWS Europe (Milan) Region, users in Italy will experience lower latency and local AWS customers with data residency requirements will be able to store their content in the country – they’ll also get assurances from AWS that they keep control over the location of their data.
Discussing the move, Andy Jassy, Chief Executive Office at Amazon Web Services, said:
“For thousands of years, Italians have been the architects of some of the most innovative and ground-breaking technical and artistic feats. We've been amazed with how Italian companies have invented on top of AWS thus far, but believe an AWS Region in Italy makes it even easier for Italian companies and government organizations to reinvent and evolve customer and citizen experiences for many decades to come.”
The AWS (Milan) Region will include three Availability Zones, right now the firm provides 57 Availability Zones across 19 regions worldwide and has 12 more in the pipeline that will come online between the end of the year and the first half of 2020, the latest expansion will add to these. Italy is the sixth country to get AWS after France, Germany, Ireland, the U.K., and Sweden.
The move will improve services for many businesses operating out of Italy, including Decysion, Docebo, Eataly, Edizioni Conde Nast, ENEL, Ferrero, GEDI Gruppo Editoriale, Imperia & Monferrina, Lamborghini, Mediaset, Navionics, Pirelli, Pixartprinting, SEAT Pagine Gialle, Tagetik Software, and Vodafone Italy.
Italy is the latest country to be added to AWS’ ‘Coming soon’ list, it joins the likes of Bahrain, Hong Kong SAR, Sweden, and South Africa.
