Samsung: over 50 million Galaxy S I/II smartphones sold

The Galaxy S series of smartphones have been a huge sales success for Samsung. How big of a success, you may ask? Samsung has the answer to that question in a new press release (Google translation). The company proudly proclaimed today that the first two versions of the Galaxy S have sold a total of over 50 million units worldwide.

More specifically, the company said that 24 million units of the Galaxy S phone have been made since the phone was first put on sale in June of 2010. The sales of the Galaxy S II, launched in the spring of 2011, have been even better with sales of 28 million units of that model.

Obviously, that means the newest member of the family, the Galaxy S III, has a lot to live up to. The Galaxy S III just launched in parts of Europe earlier this week and, based on claims of solid pre-order sales, it would appear that the smartphone has a good start. The Galaxy S III is scheduled to debut in Canada on June 20th but there's still no word on when it will make it to the US.

The same press release from Samsung today also stated that the Galaxy Note, the massive smartphone that first launched in the fall of 2011, has now sold seven million units worldwide.
