Microsoft Translator gets six new text-to-speech languages

Earlier last month, the Bing Speech API extended its text-to-speech support to six additional languages. It was also reported that the new text-to-speech languages will be added to the Microsoft Translator Speech API and the Microsoft Translator apps at a later date. For users of the Microsoft Translator apps and the Translator live feature, the wait is over as the software giant has now introduced those same languages to the list of text to speech languages.

The latest expansion of the Microsoft Translator's text-to-speech support brings the total number of supported languages to 36. With the availability of the six new languages, users will be able to play translated words in their native accent and learn how to pronounce foreign phrases in the following languages:

  • Bulgarian
  • Croatian
  • Malay
  • Slovenian
  • Tamil
  • Vietnamese

Developers will also be able to integrate the text-to-speech languages into their own apps and products that use the Translator speech API. However, the six new text-to-speech languages are only supported on Android devices at the moment, though Microsoft promises to roll out iOS support in the near future.
