Amazon's $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods Market last year resulted in the launch of a free two-hour delivery of natural and organic products through Prime Now in February. However, the service was only available in Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas, and Virginia Beach during its pilot month before reaching more cities over the last few months.
The online retail giant announced that it is expanding the free two-hour delivery of grocery products from Whole Foods Market to Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, and Richmond. The latest expansion makes the service available in 14 cities overall, with Amazon planning to bring it to more cities this year.
Christina Minardi, Whole Foods Market Executive Vice President of Operations, said:
We’ve been delighted with the customer response to free two-hour delivery through Prime Now, and we’re excited to bring the service to our customers in Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia and Richmond. Today’s announcement is another way that we are continuing to expand access to our high-quality products and locally-sourced favorites.
Customers can shop for fresh produce, meat and seafood, and other locally sourced products from Whole Foods Market using the Prime Now app for Android and iOS devices or through the Prime Now website.
While grocery items will be shipped to customers within two hours for free, Prime members can also choose to pay $7.99 to have their orders costing $35 or more delivered within an hour.
