Opera has announced a new version of Opera Touch. One of the headline features being touted is the ability to block cookie notifications. Ever since last year, websites have been following GDPR rules which means they have to let users know they use tracking cookies. While it’s a good idea, clicking all those dialog boxes can become tiresome.
The firm first introduced cookie dialog blocking back in November with the release of Opera for Android 48. It said that it had received “overwhelmingly positive” feedback from users so it decided to bring the feature to Opera Touch on both Android and iOS.
You can enable the feature in the Settings menu under Block Cookie Dialogs. Once enabled you can also decide whether to automatically agree to the notifications too; this is generally recommended as it may break functionality on websites you visit if you don’t agree to the use of cookies.
The firm says that the blocker uses a combination of CSS rules and JavaScript heuristics. The feature has been tested on more than 15,000 popular websites which will reduce the likelihood of issues. The feature will be continually developed with support for additional sites being added in the near future.
