Epic is changing Fortnite's physics engine in the next season of Chapter 2

Epic Games has announced that the next season of Fortnite Chapter 2 will launch on February 20, making the current season by far the longest in the battle royale's history. It has been over three months since Chapter 2 started, and Epic revealed in November that it was extending the current season to early February. Although the developer hasn't revealed much about Season 2, it says there'll be additional overtime challenges and a new two-week event before this season ends.

Epic Games has also announced a major update in which it is changing up the physics engine that Fortnite runs on, moving the game to the Unreal Engine's new Chaos physics engine with the 11.50 update. The update is planned for early February, and the company states that its main goal is to make sure that "Fortnite still feels like Fortnite" so users ideally shouldn't notice much of a difference. However, it has noticed that there might be some bumps during the transition, so it will be slowly rolling out this change by “starting tests with a small group of players."

Although the announcement post goes on to tease some changes that the next season will bring, Epic has humorously redacted them out so we're unable to see what they are. Players will need to wait and see the changes for themselves on February 20.
