WP7 brings Local Scout to Bing interface

At todays press conference Microsoft unveiled a new feature within the search hub. Local Scout enables the user to find amenities near their current location, such as restaurants and bars, movies, neighborhood events, and interesting local landmarks. Using the users' location to add an extra level of intelligence to the search ties in with the core principals of Windows Phone 7, enabling the user to quickly find the information they're after, and then get on with their life.

Search results tie in through the same deep-linking capabilities seen elsewhere in Mango, with applications and the marketplace. For example, when searching for movies, not only do you see local cinema listings, you can see reviews, and deep links to applications such as IMDB, which, if installed, would take the user directly to that movie's page within the IMDB listings.

As you can see in the screenshot above, a map of the local area is displayed at the top of the screen, with icons indicating the location of the search results seen below. This ties in with the recently uncovered Turn by Turn navigation feature coming with Mango, allowing the user to easily navigate to the location of the result.
