Google published its latest monthly Android security update just over two weeks ago, making it immediately available for supported Pixel and Nexus devices. And now, Samsung has started rolling out the firmwares via an over-the-air (OTA) update to its S8 and S8+ flagships in China.
Firmware version G9500ZCU2AQL2 is being pushed to the Galaxy S8 (SM-G9500) and G9550ZCU2AQL2 for the Galaxy S8+ (SM-G9550) which are both the Snapdragon 835 variants, in China. The January security maintenance release for Samsung handsets brings fixes for five critical Android vulnerabilities and fixes for 13 vulnerabilities and exposures (SVE) in the company’s own software.
Although the update is reportedly only rolling out in China at the time of writing, it shouldn't be long before it starts rolling out in other regions. This also means that although the beta test for Android 8.0 (Oreo) came to an end earlier this week, it is looking like it won't start hitting devices until sometime in February at the earliest; the report did say that beta testers can expect to see the 'final' Oreo version before the end of this month.
