Xbox Insiders in Preview Alpha and Skip Ahead rings are getting new builds today

Windows Insiders may need to wait until the middle of the week to get new builds, but the Xbox team is kicking off the week with a pair of new builds for its own set of Insiders. There are two new builds today, but neither of them includes a whole lot that's new.

First, there's a new build for those who are part of the Preview Alpha (non-Skip Ahead) ring, which comes with build number 181129-1920, and is part of the upcoming version 1902 of the Xbox One system. This build mostly builds on top of version 1811 which is now generally available, and includes a few bug fixes.

My Games and Apps

  • Performance fixes for various FastStart titles to improve the installation experience.
  • Fixes to various games (e.g. Resident Evil 0) in which cutscenes would fail and the game would lock. The cutscenes now play as designed.
  • Fixes to ensure the default apps like the Avatar Editor and Microsoft Rewards work on first launch.

There are also some known issues with this release, however, which are listed below:

Audio

  • We are tracking audio issues in which some games have audio that cuts in and out
  • Audio settings reverting to a previous settings after taking an update. Workaround is to please turn on your Audio Receiver prior to turning your Xbox One and the settings will not revert.

Mouse

  • We are tracking the issue with mouse lag causing game performance in some games – Workaround – Turn down the polling rate if you have a gaming mouse with software on a PC. Turn it as low as possible (125 hz).

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

If you're one of the more eager Xbox Insiders and made your way to the Preview Alpha - Skip Ahead ring, you'll also have a new build waiting for you today. This is in preparation for version 1904 of the Xbox One system, and it comes with the same fixes as the build above, plus some new ones. Version 1904 will also include some new features which will be introduced over the coming months. Here's the list of fixes in this release:

Audio:

  • Fixes to resolve audio timing issues that resulted in stuttering and missing audio.

My Games and Apps

  • Fixes to the system to ensure that Game Updates are automatically downloaded and installed when the user selects the option in settings.
  • Performance fixes displaying your licensed content in My Games and Apps.
  • Fixed the bug causing Game Pass and EA Access Games to go Missing when the collection cache changed.

System

  • Performance Fixes to improve the stability of the console.
  • Fixed the issue in which users with large game collections were seeing E203 error when taking a system update.

Of course, this build isn't without its own set of problems. Here's what you need to be aware of:

Mouse

  • We are tracking the issue with mouse lag causing game performance in some games
    • Workaround – Turn down the polling rate if you have a gaming mouse with software on a PC. Turn it as low as possible (125 hz).

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

Both of the updates will be available at 2pm Pacific Time (5pm Eastern Time) today, so be sure to grab them once they've rolled out. More significant features should be coming in future builds, which isn't surprising considering how far away the stable release is right now.
