Yesterday, Kali Linux became the latest Linux distribution to show up in the Microsoft Store. As it turns out though, the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) team isn't done yet, as Debian GNU/Linux showed up today.
If you're not familiar with Debian, it's an open-source OS that can be used for PCs, servers, and cloud systems. Anyone can use, modify, or distribute it, and the company says that the product is used by "millions of people across the globe from solo backpackers to astronauts on the International Space Station, small companies, and huge organizations."
In order to get started with Debian on your Windows 10 machine, you'll first need to turn on WSL. This can be done through the Control Panel in the "Turn Windows features on or off" section. Once that's done, it's as simple as installing the app through the Microsoft Store.
Debian says that its OS comes with over 51,000 packages, along with a package manager "and other utilities that make it possible to manage thousands of computers as easily as installing a single application."
