Chuwi's MacBook Air copycat can now be ordered

It was about a month ago that we reported on Chuwi's homage to Apple's MacBook Air with its own LapBook Air. Since that time, the firm has shown off the product at IFA Berlin and has now started the preliminary process of getting into consumers' hands. Although it is not available for immediate shipment quite yet, it is currently available for purchase from Amazon.

To celebrate its retail launch, Chuwi has set up a web page that will allow eager consumers to sign up and save $50 off the retail price. According to the firm, by using the coupon, which will be sent through email, it will bring down the price of the unit to $379. Oddly, on Amazon, the product is currently listed at $459.99, so we have reached out to the company for clarification.

According to Chuwi, this is the most svelte laptop they have produced to date measuring in at 6mm at its thinnest point. The laptop will be constructed of metal, will weigh in at 2.86lbs, and will also have an illuminated rear logo.

As far as its other components, the Chuwi LapBook Air will offer:

  • 14.1-inch 1080p IPS display
  • Intel N3450 Apollo Lake processor
  • 8GB DDR3
  • 128GB internal storage with M.2 slot for expansion
  • 2MP webcam
  • 802.11b/g/n/ac
  • MicroSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB 3.0 x 2
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Windows 10

While this laptop certainly looks promising, it will be interesting to see whether Chuwi has been able to improve the experience over its previous offering, the recently reviewed LapBook 12.3.
