Microsoft made the Windows 10 October 2018 Update available to all users this Tuesday, alongside the reveal of a bevvy of new Surface products. Unfortunately, the public release of the update contained a Task Manager bug that the company has known about for 2 weeks.
The bug in question causes Task Manager to incorrectly report CPU usage, something the company was aware of back when it released Build 17763 to the Fast ring. Since then, the same build was flighted to the Slow ring and eventually released to the public, as Microsoft decided to skip the Release Preview ring this time around.
The bug seems to have slipped through, however, as a user on Reddit noted. Task Manager is still showing CPU usage numbers that are understated.
The new Task Manager in the October 2018 Update does also receive a few new features. Namely, power usage and power trend. The former will now give you an idea of how much power is consumed by a given process, while the latter will, as the name suggests, indicate the long-term trend of the same.
A fix is, however, said to be in the works and could be released along other hotfixes as part of the cumulative update planned for this month's Patch Tuesday, coinciding with October 9.
