Razer announces the Core X for external GPUs

Alongside of its new Blade gaming laptop, Razer today announced the Core X, its new solution for external GPUs. The device allows you to take any PC that has a Thunderbolt 3 port - such as the Blade Stealth with its integrated graphics - and turn it into a gaming rig.

But since it connects via Thunderbolt 3, it's not limited to Razer devices. If you're on Windows 10 version 1607 or later, or macOS 10.13.4 High Sierra or later, you're good to go.

The Razer Core X has an expanded design so that it can hold three-slot-wide GPUs, including Nvidia GeForce, Nvidia Quadro, AMD XConnect, Radeon, and Radeon Pro. It includes a 650W ATX power supply, and the Thunderbolt 3 output is 100W, so it can charge your laptop too while you're playing games.

Razer says that installation of your graphics card takes just seconds with its new GPU enclosure. The housing slides open and the GPU can be secured in place with a thumb screw, so you don't need any tools.

The Razer Core X is available today for $299 in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and China. It's coming soon to the Nordics, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.
