Battlefield V returns series to World War II, ditches Premium Pass in favor of free maps

Following Battlefield 1's World War 1 setting, DICE's shooter series is now moving forward into World War II once again. As revealed by the developer at its Battlefield V reveal event today, the brand new and extremely chaotic in-engine trailer for the upcoming shooter can be seen above.

While the developer is keeping gameplay footage under wraps until its EA Play event next month, what it did reveal was that the Premium Pass will not be returning for Battlefield V, with all maps and modes arriving free to everyone who purchases the base game. But, it does seem like cosmetic microtransactions will have a bigger focus to make up for that, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

In addition to the multiplayer modes and single-player War Stories campaigns, the game will include a four-player cooperative mode named Combined Arms. The last time that a Battlefield game had co-op was back in 2011 with Battlefield 3.

Although DICE did not go into detail, some multiplayer elements were revealed as well, such as the return of Operations game mode in a much larger scale, as well as the new Toolbox that is given to support classes, letting them construct barricades and fortifications in battle.

Battlefield V will launch on October 19 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. However, Deluxe Edition owners will gain early access on October 16, while Origin Access and EA Access subscribers will receive a Play First trial on October 11. Moreover, those who pre-order will receive open beta access sometime before launch.

Also, don't forget that a couple of expansions - Battlefield 1's In the Name of the Tsar and Battlefield 4's Final Stand - are currently free to claim on all platforms.
