Microsoft updates Xbox 360 ESPN channel with new features

Sports fans who own Microsoft's Xbox 360 console now have some new options for watching games. As promised several weeks ago, a major update to the console's ESPN3 channel is now available for console owners who have Xbox Live Gold access. As reported on the Major Nelson web site, the update brings a number of new features for the channel including being able to watch two live sports events at the same time via a split screen in 720p resolutions.

Other new features include a new guide that shows off what's being offered for viewers on ESPN3 on the bottom of the screen. Fans of college football, which is just getting started here in the US, will be happy with the new scoreboard which allows fans to check out an updated list of the week's scores from the college scene on the right side of the screen while you watch your favorite game on the left side. You can also tag which future games are coming up and be reminded of them. The MySports feature lets you customize which games and game genres you are interested in seeing on the ESPN3 channel with news and highlights. There's also ESPN BottomLine, a new feature that offers up breaking news from the sports world.

Kinect owners will also be happy with the ESPN3 update as they will be able to use the motion controller camera add on to control some aspects of the channel via voice control. You can use your voice to tell the channel to scroll through its content guide as well as play, pause and rewind sports highlights.
