Amazon’s Cloud Player first hit the scenes back in March and has been met with a positive reaction. Unfortunately, users on the iOS platform were unable to access the cloud and were instead met with a message telling them to use Internet Explorer to access the site. Now it appears that restriction has been lifted with TechCrunch reporting that the site is accessible via Safari.
When a user attempts to access the Cloud Player site, they are still given a warning that the Safari browser is incompatible, but that message can be safely ignored. The Cloud Drive interface displays and within seconds you can be listening to your music streaming from anywhere you have a signal. The interface may not be as nice as the dedicated app that Android users have access to, but the end results are the same.
Apple is working on their own cloud offering, codenamed Castle, and the product is rumored to be available with the new version of Lion. The product is expected to integrate with iTunes and may even have the backing of the music labels, something Amazon currently lacks. It will be interesting to see whether Amazon develops an app for the iPhone/iPad crowd and whether Apple will allow it on the marketplace
