When Apple introduced the Watch Series 4 earlier this year, it promised that the device would support electrocardiograms (ECGs) before the end of the year. While the feature has shown up in various iterations of beta software, it's never made it into production.
According to a new report from MacRumors, users will finally be able to use the feature in watchOS 5.1.2, which has been in beta for three weeks now. It's still unclear when the software update will actually be released, but it shouldn't be too long given that it's a pretty minor update and it's already been in testing for a while.
The feature will come as an app on the device. Upon launching it, users will be prompted to place their finger on the digital crown for 30 seconds, and it will be able to tell if your heart is beating in a regular pattern.
Whenever watchOS 5.1.2 is actually released, it will likely be alongside iOS 12.1.1, tvOS 12.1.1, and macOS 10.14.2, all of which have also been in beta testing for a few weeks.
