Over the weekend, a new user interface for the Cortana home screen was shared online. It was the latest indication that Microsoft may be splitting the personal assistant and Windows Search in the next feature update for Windows 10. Today, a new screenshot was revealed online showing that the new UI has gone live on the latest Windows 10 Insider build 18277.
The redesigned UI was spotted byTwitter user Florian B. It highlights more of the changes to the Windows Search interface than to Cortana's.
As can be seen in the image above, the new Cortana home screen displays your most recent web browsing history and opened documents, though the recently opened Windows 10 apps show up on the “Apps” tab only. These are shown at the top bar menu, with the apps, documents, email, web, and more tabs sitting in a single row.
It's also worth noting that several parts available in the previous UI are now gone in the new design including the “How can I help” message, a starter guide for Cortana, and the “Pick up where you left off” section. In general, the latest UI seems to mark another step in Microsoft's efforts to separate Windows Search and Cortana, which is expected to happen in Windows 10 19H1.
