Today, a new build of Windows is hitting Insiders that are on the Fast ring. With build 17115, Microsoft is putting emphasis on a new section that will be dedicated to users' privacy and has highlighted some of the new features that can be expected in the latest update. These updates will reach the general public sometime in the spring but for now, let's have a close look at some of the new features and improvements.
The changes to privacy settings will be evident from first boot, as users will be able to carefully craft the experience. While some of these portions will be nothing new, being available in current versions of Windows 10, there will be two new categories added to the familiar mix: Inking & Typing and Find my device.
Microsoft has noted that while the new categories will be available to Fast ring Insiders, it won't show up in the same manner when presented to users. Some will review the privacy settings on a single screen, while others will see separate screens for each option. You can see from the screenshot above what a single screen menu option will look like and the dotted outline giving Microsoft's recommended setting option for the user. You don't have to necessarily choose that option, but you will have to choose one in order to move on to the next screen and boot into Windows.
By opting in to help Microsoft improve inking and typing, users will be giving away some data to help the firm "improve suggestion capabilities of applications and services running on Windows such as handwriting recognition, auto-completion, next word prediction and spelling correction in the many languages used by Windows customers". As always, the differences in screens and menus are meant to give users options and to see which one is better in the end for customers. Again, these options will become available to the general public in the spring and refinement of the experience is key.
