Xenoblade Chronicles 2 getting additional content later this year

Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct event in time for E3 today, and among the announcements was a new expansion to the Japanese RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which was originally released towards the end of last year.

Torna - The Golden Country is a new adventure which takes place 500 years prior to the events of the original game, focusing on the threat of a character named Malos, who brought down the city of Omrantha and is now threatening to destroy the country of Torna.

Players will guide a group of heroes and be able to fight as both Blades, artificial life forms found in the game, and their master - called Drivers - as they attempt to stop the destruction of the Aegis in Torna. Aside from the new story and setting, the expansion seems to play similarly to the original.

The new downloadable content will be available digitally on September 14 through the game's expansion pass, but it will also be available as a standalone game in a retail package on September 21. The expansion pass costs $29.99 and includes other DLC content. You can buy it right now to get the new content once it's available. The standalone retail package does not have a price as of yet.
