AMD Radeon 18.9.2 driver further optimizes Shadow of the Tomb Raider and more

Only a week after dropping its previous driver, AMD has pushed out another update to its Radeon graphics driver suite. The Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.2 driver is mainly focused on delivering optimizations for games that the company has already added support for.

All of the following performance numbers are for RX Vega 64 8GB graphics cards but keep in mind that the extra performance should arrive to the entire GCN line-up of the company even if they aren't mentioned in the release notes.

Kicking things off, Square Enix's Shadow of the Tomb Raider will see up to 4% more performance with this driver, while F1 2018 owners will see a 3% boost. Fornite players will also see some improvement, with AMD managing to increase its performance by 5%. However, Star Control: Origins is the game seeing the most improvement, with AMD saying the upcoming title will run 17% faster on these new drivers.

There is only a single fixed issue in this release, probably because of the focus on optimizations, but there are still several known issues that the company is working on resolving:

Fixed Issues

  • Star Control®: Origins may experience particle corruption on some cloud textures

Known Issues

  • Some AMD Ryzen™ Desktop Processors with Radeon™ Vega Graphics system configurations may experience a black screen during installation downgrade to a previous Radeon Software version. A recommended workaround is to perform a clean install during Radeon Software installation.
  • Radeon RX Vega Series graphics products may experience elevated memory clocks during system idle.
  • System configurations with 16+ CPU cores may experience a random system reboot during installation when upgrading Radeon Software from a version older than RSAE 18.8.1. A clean installation is recommended when performing this Radeon Software upgrade.

With more blockbuster games on the horizon, such as FIFA 19, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and of course Forza Horizon 4, AMD graphics card owners should gear up for even more drivers to drop quite soon.

The Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.9.2 driver is now available to download via the links listed in its release notes over here as well as through the AMD Radeon Settings app on Windows.
