If you work in front of your PC all day like we do, then you probably already know how convenient it can be to be able to send and receive texts from your PC, or make and receive calls. There are some internet-based services that allow you to do this from your browser, but they all require you getting another phone number. Today, Dell announced Mobile Connect, a way to do just that.
Except that's not all that it does. Mobile Connect can also mirror apps from your smartphone, making your PC a complete extension of your Android or iOS device. If you connect your device to your PC wirelessly via Bluetooth, you won't even have to take your phone out of your pocket.
Other companies, such as Microsoft, Samsung, and Huawei, have made attempts at bringing the mobile experience to the desktop, and HP recently came out with Phone Wise, which works with SMS and calls. This is the first solution that merges the calling and SMS functionality with screen mirroring.
Dell says that Mobile Connect will come pre-installed on all new XPS, Alienware, Inspiron, and Vostro devices beginning this month. It's unclear just yet as to whether those with older Dell machines will have access to the software, although there are system requirements for it, so presumably, it's a bit more open. It requires a 1GHz Intel Celeron of above (or AMD equivalent), 2GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics or above, and Windows 10 version 1607 or later. On the mobile end, you need to be running at least iOS 10 or Android 5.0 Lollipop.
