Microsoft's popular real-time strategy series Age of Empires has been quite active in recent years, with the fourth game in the franchise now in development and the classic titles being remastered. And now, since both Age of Empires and its sequel have Definitive Editions, Microsoft has turned its attention towards testing the upcoming Age of Empires III remaster.
In an announcement, the development team revealed that Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition Insider beta testing will begin early next month. Shorter sessions of testing will be employed this time, with Insiders gaining access to various slices of the game, rather similar to how Halo: The Master Chief Collection Insider flights are done.
Multiplayer, matchmaking, and overall feel of the game will be tested in early February with a limited number of invites being sent out. This pool will grow in March. As for the single-player campaign testing, the developer plans to invite a small selection of players to try out certain missions.
Those who want to get a chance at joining the Insider sessions can sign in to the Age of Empires website using a Microsoft account and update the "Insider Settings" on the profile section. Both Steam and Microsoft store versions of the game will be tested during the sessions also.
Interestingly, it seems the announcement is a newsletter that was to be sent only to selected Insiders, but for some reason, it is available for viewing on the Age of Empires forum without even needing to log in.
