As Android 5.1 rolls out to other devices, Google pushes Android 5.0.2 to the Nexus 9

One of Google's newest flagships, the Nexus 9 tablet - a showcase device for Android 5.0 Lollipop - has only had one OTA (over the air) update since it went on sale six months ago, bumping the OS up from 5.0 to 5.0.1.

However, as Android Police reports, the HTC-built Nexus 9 is finally getting another OTA update - but it's not getting Android 5.1, or the even newer Android 5.1.1 release. Instead, the latest update brings version 5.0.2 to the tablet, with no new features, and only a handful of bug fixes. As you may recall, Google first released Android 5.0.2 back in December.

Nexus 9 owners may well be frustrated by this state of affairs, especially when you consider that Android 5.1 has now been available on other devices for three months, and has already rolled out OTA to the likes of HTC's One M7 and M8 Google Play editions.

But the patience of those who bought a Nexus 9 may soon be rewarded, as Google has hinted that the Android 5.1 OTA update is being worked on, and should be released in the not-too-distant future.

Google's latest official figures show that just 0.7% of Android devices now run version 5.1, while Android 5.0.x versions are more widely available, running on 9.0% of devices.
